My civic hatchback project

I bought this car as a birthday present for myself last June 25, 2001.

Since the first EG hatchback rolled out of the Honda plant, I have fallen inlove with its design. Light compact yet sporty looking car. Unfortunately for us Pinoys, we were not able to get blessed with Honda's latest high performace engines on the '92 to '95 civic. The PDM (Philippine Domestic Market) models was a hybrid between USDM and JDM civic. The exterior is JDM while the interior is USDM. The Engine, unfortunately came out of the early 80's civic. Its a carbureted 1.2 Liter 16 valve SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) producing about 75Horsepower. Though the engine is small, the gross vehicular weight is less than 900Kgs making the PDM civic hatch very fuel efficient and fast.

THE MODIFICATION

My first priority was the audio system. The hatchback may look small but the hatchback design is great for putting an audio system becasue of the large comparment area at the back.

Before I had Pioneer CD changer but changed it to an in-dash CD for convenience.
This is how the rear looked like last December

My Set up:
Head Unit: Pioneer DEH1650 CD tuner (50 watts x 4)
Front speakers: 6" coaxials + 1" tweeters on Blaupunkt Separates (100 watts each)
Rear Speakers: Pioneer 4 way 6"x9" (250 watts each)
Subwoofer: 2 x 12" Coustic Power Logic free air subs(250 watts each) Powered by Alpine V12

One disadvantage of having an audio system is:
1. You loose trunk space
2. Spare tire, tools, and jack is either not accessible or non exist.

This is how I solved this problem:

Sounds great!

BTW I do my own work so I only bought the equipment and materials.
total cost of the whole audio system is really cheap.

Second priority is the looks.
Since I have to repaint the whole car I decided to change the color. From satin silver to tafetta white! BTW Tafetta white is the OEM color of the Civic Type-R, its m4d +y+3 y0!

Before painting pics:

Scrape to metal Anzahl paintjob with the help of my good old friend who worked with Honda Alabang body repair and paint section.

The secret of having a clean paintjob is disassembling the whole car. Well in my case all exterior and some interior parts were removed.

After 2 weeks, she's done!

Replaced the OEM spoiler with Spoon Wing

Painted the rims Gun Metal

And some shots of the motor

Replaced the stock Gauge cluster with my Custom JDM EG9 Gauge.

I bet I'm the only one in the Manila with a Gauge cluster that light up like this.

Here is a before and after pic

Upcoming Modifications
1. Spoon side mirror (done)
2. Lower it more
3. Rear disk brake conversion
4. Front big disk brake upgrade
5. JDM B16A swap

Thanks for looking!
Emil
